1985-88 Life in Oakdale: Identical cousins/half-sisters
Frannie and Sabrina were reunited as adults. After splitting with
college beau Kevin, Frannie became involved with the dangerous Doug.
She later dated Seth, who was seduced by Sabrina. Life after
Oakdale: Moore is the twice Oscar-nominated star of such films
as Hannibal, The End of the Affair, Magnolia,
Boogie Nights, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and
Short Cuts.
17. Mark Rydell,
1956-62 Life in Oakdale: Rich kid Jeff and sweet Penny
Hughes were one of Oakdale's most beloved couples. Life after
Oakdale: Rydell achieved fame behind the camera, directing
episodes of such classic TV series as The Fugitive and movies
like The Rose and On Golden Pond. His next project is
the TNT biopic James Dean: An Invented Life.
18. Gary Sandy,
1970 Life in Oakdale: Hank Barton was Tom's college
roommate, a ne'er-do-well who got Tom hooked on speed. Life
after Oakdale: Sandy played Andy Travis on the hit sitcom
WKRP in Cincinnati and appeared in last year's
Oscar-nominated The Insider.
19. Kim Johnston Ulrich,
1983-1985 Life in Oakdale: Jet-setter Diana McColl tried
(but failed) to keep Steve away from Betsy. Life after
Oakdale: After working steadily in primetime with episodic gigs
on such series as Cheers, Wings, Sisters,
Diagnosis Murder, and Seventh Heaven, Johnston Ulrich
is now exercising her funny bone as dethroned Passions
matriarch Ivy Winthrop Crane.
20. Swoosie Kurtz,
1971 Life in Oakdale: Ellie Bradley and her mother were
residents of Oakdale for a brief time. Life after Oakdale:
Kurtz's turn as Gwen in the Broadway production of The Fifth of
July earned her a Tony and a Drama Desk Award; another Tony
followed for The House of Blue Leaves. A two-time Emmy
nominee for her work as Alex on Sisters, Kurtz has starred in
such movies as Dangerous Liaisons, The World According to
Garp, and the recent teen comedy Get Over It.
21. Kerr Smith, 1996-97 Life
in Oakdale: Ryder romanced Nikki Munson but, concerned that she
would forego college to be with him, broke up with her and moved to
South Beach. Life after Oakdale: For the past three
seasons, Smith has played gay teen Jack McPhee on Dawson's
Creek while racking up film credits like Final
Destination, The Broken Hearts Club, and the upcoming
thriller The Forsaken.
22. Jordana
Brewster, 1995-98 Life in Oakdale: Hal's
long-lost daughter Nikki dated Jeremy and Ryder, then left town to
enroll at Yale. Life after Oakdale: A Yale undergrad
off-screen as well, Brewster has appeared in films (The
Faculty) and TV mini-series (The '60s) and stars in the
upcoming action flick The Fast and the Furious.
23. Hillary B.
Smith, 1983-90 Life in Oakdale: Cop Margo
developed feelings for her partner, Hal Munson, and gave birth to
their son Adam. Life after Oakdale: Since 1992, Smith has
played Nora on One Life to Live, for which she won a Daytime
Emmy in 1994 as Outstanding Lead Actress.
24. Thomas Gibson,
1988-1990 Life in Oakdale: Philandering Derek Mason,
Lily's first husband, died in an explosion meant for her. Life
after Oakdale: Gibson, who has appeared in such films as The
Age of Innocence and Eyes Wide Shut, is a prime-time
fixture as the titular male on ABC's Dharma & Greg.
25. Mark Pinter,
1984-87 Life in Oakdale: Brian McColl, who founded The
Argus, dated Juliette and Shannon but married
Beatrice. Life after Oakdale: Pinter, best known as the
dastardly Grant Harrison on Another World, in now a contract
player on AMC as Roger Smythe.
26. Frankie
Michaels, 1964-66 Life in Oakdale: Young
Tom was traumatized by the divorce of his folks, Bob and
Lisa. Life after Oakdale: Michaels won a Tony Award for
playing Angela Landsbury's nephew in the Broadway hit Mame.
27. Ruth Warrick,
1956-60 Life in Oakdale: Free-spirited Edith Hughes had an
affair with Jim Lowell, thus ending his marriage to
Claire. Life after Oakdale: Warrick has played socialite
Phoebe Wallingford on AMC since its 1970 inception.
28. Margaret Colin,
1981-83 Life in Oakdale: Feisty Margo discovered that John
was her father and married Tom Hughes, with whom she fell in love
over the course of their many adventures. Life after
Oakdale: Colin played the title role in the Broadway production
Jackie, based on the life of the former first lady. She has
appeared in such films as Three Men and a Baby,
Independence Day, and The Devil's Own.
