Animation Tutorials

GIF Animation with Fireworks

This tutorial teaches how to view, edit and create animated GIFs with Macromedia Fireworks. Use this tutorial in class.

Other Tutorials
If you have the time or interest...

1. Macromedia Flash Tutorial

Flash is a popular, powerful application for creating animations, with sound! We won't have time to squeeze it into this class, but you might want to experiment on your own.

The demo version of Flash is on your TCF389 Application CD-ROM.

2. GIF Animator Tutorials from Ulead

The publisher of GIF Animator (for Windows) provides an animation tutorial that details the basics.

GIF Animator is not available in the TCF computer lab, but you may use GIFBuilder (see below) to create your own animated GIF.

Ulead provides a free, 15-day trial version of GIF Animator, which you may download for your own Windows computer.

3. GIFBuilder Tutorial

GIFBuilder is a free piece of software for creating animated GIFs, but only on the Mac. (You may download a copy for your own Mac.) Work through the GIFBuilder Tutorial and create your own animated GIF using frames from the above two tutorials or the ones provided with the GIFBuilder Tutorial itself.

4. Web Animation for Dummies

Despite the insulting name, this book (by Cynthia L. Baron and Renee Lewinter) provides valuable pointers on using Adobe Photoshop to create frames for animation. I recommend buying the book, perhaps from Amazon.com; but you may work your way through its Photoshop example over here (username = tcfuser and password = tcfuser).
