Extra Credit Option
This extra credit option is worth up to three extra credit points, which count toward the semester's total of 100 points. It is due by the Friday of Study Week.
- Install VLC Media Player (or use it on the Communication Reading Room's Gorgas Library's computers).
- Do not use version 2.1 of VLC for the Shot Logger extra credit!
- Version 2.1 broke a key feature of VLC necessary for Shot Logger! Instead, use an earlier version--available here.
- Select a French film you have access to on DVD or video file (but not an iTunes file; they are protected by DRM). If you cannot find a French film, then choose a non-French one.
- Films that have already been entered into Shot Logger are not eligible. Please see the list of films here:
- Grab a frame from the start of every shot in your film and save it as a JPEG file.
- Make sure that the frame's time code is embedded in the file name. Thus, a file name for Breathless might look something like this:
- Breathlessqq00_10_15qq0000023.jpg (the part of the file name in bold face is the time code)
- More detailed instructions are here:
In order for your frames to earn extra credit you must:
- Create JPEG files with time code in the file's names. This is essential.
- Identify the name of the film.
- Burn the frames to a blank CD/DVD or flash drive.
- Submit them either to Dr. Butler's mailbox in the TCF office (room 484 Phifer) or bring them by his office (486C Phifer).
Please let me know if you have any questions.
